Here is an interview of Cati about L effleur des Sens:
What does L’effleur des Sens (L' eds) mean?
It means "flirt with the senses".
What is the concept of L’eds?
Taking the French cabaret and all the things I love, that I’ve been influenced by throughout my travels, modern style mixed with visual art. I combine visual art with sensuality. It’s a show designed to evoke sensuality. It doesn’t tell you how to feel but rather presents with a visual and aural landscape and let’s the audience participate in their mind to inspire and move them .... to help them discover their own sensuality.
Vision of the show.
It’s an abstract show without a story line that takes you on a journey through different states of subconscious sensuality. They are vignettes designed to evoke but they are not specific and do not specifically tell the audience how to feel. I want people to engage and come to their own conclusions at the end of the show. The only link into this journey is the Master of Ceremony, Monsieur Romeo (www.monsieurromeo.com). He is the bright interaction with the audience and adds this element of pure Live and Raw entertainment. He is also French, which validate and enhance the European flavor of my show.
The process of transformation
I use the unique talents of my dancers and will often choreograph to their strengths. I challenge them. I often have them switch roles to keep them alert and to give them a challenge. I see my work as a visual cinematic experience; an entire visual experiece than just the choreography. Dance is only one element. I consider lighting, costuming, music, etc. equally important. You will probably never see a dancer do a pirouette in this show but they must be highly trained dancers in order to perform these movements. I want the audience to be intoxicated by the visual, sound and psychological experience. I try to avoid clichés but when I use them I give them a twist. I re-contextualize the cliché so that the audience doesn’t always get what they think there are getting and that ads an element of surprise. I am amused and have fun defeating people’s expectations. I ten to rebel against the mainstream and therefore I am not a traditionalist. Although I have a deep respect for traditional forms through my ballet and modern training and my years working in the French cabaret. I like to bring together high art and the discipline of modern and ballet with the entertaining aspect of cabaret.
Bringing this progressive show to the United States.
I want to create an atmosphere where sexuality and sensualiy are not considered vulgar or taboo but are considered alluring, healthy and fun. What I am presenting is refined, classic and progressive. I am happy to share my vision with American audiences but the show is not tied to a particular culture or race or nationality. It crosses all borders. An international audience can enjoy the visual landscape of the show regardless of the language that is used by the MC.
Impact of the show.
When the audience walks away from the show I hope that they feel transformed and that we will have taken them out of their bodies or out of their everyday routines. I hope they will be intoxicated by the atmosphere and the visual experience. Perhaps that sounds lofty or pretensious but just as important I want the audience to be entertained and have a great night out. I hope the show works for the audience on many different levels ... as entertainment, as high art, as pop art, dark and psychological, silly and fun.
